Richard is a Partner in the Wills, Family and Wealth Department based in our Edinburgh Office. His typical clients are high net worth individuals and business owners.

Richard specialises in matters to do with the family, succession planning in relation to business interests and also Inheritance Tax mitigation. He deals directly with his clients or with their accountant and / or a financial adviser. Richard feels that this "family office" approach works well for his clients and is pleased to give whatever guidance and support he can whenever this may be required.

With experience in most areas of Wills, Family and Wealth, his primary focus is ensuring that clients have tax efficient succession planning in place. Richard advises on and drafts Wills and Trusts, as well as advising on and dealing with Probates and Trust administration. He also acts as a Trustee in a number of Trusts and as Executor where appropriate.

Richard has wide experience in relation to Continuing and Welfare Powers of Attorney and acts for some of his clients in that capacity. In addition he advises in relation to Guardianship Applications.

Richard is a non-executive Director of Enable Trust Service Scotland. This is a charity that runs a number of Discretionary Trusts children and adults with learning difficulties. He is also a member of the Society of Law Accountants in Scotland (SOLAS) and presently holds the position of President of their Edinburgh Branch. Until recently he lectured on the subjects of Estate Administration and Inheritance Tax and was a member of the SOLAS/Law Society of Scotland Joint Examination Board.

Having left school in 1985 Richard joined Shepherd + Wedderburn, Solicitors, Edinburgh as a Paralegal. With their support Richard qualified as a solicitor with reference to The Law Society of Scotland Examinations. Richard trained at Shepherd + Wedderburn and qualified as a solicitor in November 1996. He later joined Tods Murray, Solicitors, Edinburgh and then moved on to Russel + Aitken, Solicitors, Edinburgh to head up their Private Client Department. Richard joined Archibald Campbell & Harley in 2005 and headed up their Wealth Management Department from 2007 until our merger with them on 1st October 2012.
